Effect
On obtain, transform all Strikes and Defends in your deck into random cards.
Rating & Analysis
Pandora's Box transforms every Strike and Defend in your deck into a random card the moment you obtain it. Your deck changes dramatically in an instant, setting the direction of your run in one roll of the dice. It is a complete gamble, but the potential payoff — roughly 9 starting cards replaced simultaneously — is something no other relic can replicate.
How Timing Affects Value
- Taking it immediately after Act 1 is generally the most impactful timing. More Strikes and Defends remain at that point, maximizing the number of cards that transform.
- In Act 2 and beyond, you have often already removed Strikes and Defends, so fewer cards transform.
- In a deck that has aggressively removed starting cards, the value drops. In a deck that prioritized adding cards, it can clean up remaining starter cards all at once.
Risk and Reward
- Transformed cards are drawn randomly from the full character card pool.
- The distribution skews toward commons and uncommons rather than rares.
- A lucky roll can assemble combo pieces and complete a build instantly; a bad roll scatters unrelated cards and leaves the deck directionless.
- Even in the worst case, the new cards are generally stronger than Strikes and Defends, so a complete miss is rare.
Character Ratings
| Character | Rating | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Ironclad | A+ | The card pool is broadly strong with few duds. Drawing Strength-related cards immediately completes a damage build. |
| Silent | A | Hitting multiple poison or discard cards is top-tier, but the risk of mismatched results is slightly higher. |
| Defect | A | Drawing orb cards is powerful, but splitting Lightning, Frost, and Dark evenly can leave you unfocused. |
| Necrobinder | B+ | Whether summon cards come through is random. Balance between summon and sacrifice cards matters significantly. |
| Regent | B+ | Depends on how well the results sync with star cards. Strong if Forge pieces land, but hard to predict. |
Synergies
| Card / Relic | Reason |
|---|---|
| Many Strikes and Defends in early game | More cards to transform means a bigger swing and a larger potential upside. |
| Melting / Frozen / Toxic Eggs | If transformed cards match the egg's card type, they auto-upgrade — a powerful deck can appear instantly. |
| Deck removal options | Removing poor cards after transformation refines the deck. Shop and event removal become high priority. |
| Common card upgrade tools | Even if transformed cards are commons, upgrade tools can bring them to a competitive level. |
Strategy Tips
- Immediately after taking Pandora's Box, review your deck and rebuild around the direction the transformed cards suggest.
- If a clear synergy has emerged (multiple poison cards, multiple Strength cards, etc.), commit fully to that direction.
- If the results are scattered, switch to a goodstuff approach — add strong individual cards and remove the weakest results.
- When taken in Act 1, prioritize picking up cards that fill the gaps left in your deck for the rest of the run.
